Worship God “In Spirit and in Truth”
At Holy Archangels, worship of the Holy Trinity is at the center of our lives and at the center of all that we do. God created us as worshiping beings. He created us for communion with Him: “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him” (Jn. 4:23). As Orthodox (‘right-believing’) Christians, we affirm that our worship is inspired by God and in continuity with the worship of the first Christians, ‘the faithful in the midst of Judaism,’ who saw the sacrificial worship of Israel fulfilled in the gift of the Messiah, God Himself become incarnate, the only One who could sacrifice Himself as the perfect offering to defeat sin and death on our behalf. In the Book of Acts we get a first glimpse of how our first Orthodox Christian forebears worshiped God the Holy Trinity: “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.” (Acts 2:42) At Holy Archangels and as Orthodox Christians, our worship continues to be grounded in this New Testament understanding of worship. In everything we do and everything we are about as a mission church, we worship God as He has revealed Himself to us His divine and heavenly worship.
