Weekly Update and Bulletin From Fr. Robert Miclean – September 9, 2018

This Friday we celebrate the Great Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross.  We recall that by Christ’s death on the cross, we’re endowed with life.  Christ God emerges from His encounter with this ancient instrument of death as the Victor; He defeats the enemy—death is slain!  By following Christ into this new, redeemed life through water and spirit, baptism and chrismation we “put on Christ” (Gal. 3:27) and enter the new race of Adam.  We too can become fellow victors with Christ over sin and death as we learn to mortify the passions, practice active repentance, and grow in communion with God through the sacramental life of His Church.  We cling to Christ and venerate His cross, making it our own weapon against the enemy who fights against us.  By ‘owning’ our identity in Christ as “a new creation,” one “born anew,” and cooperating with the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives and in obedience to the fullness of the way of Christ found only in His holy Church, we find freedom from enslavement to the passions; we learn obedience, humility, the virtues of a citizen of heaven whom the world.  By His death, He who is Life has slain death and raised Himself from the dead.                                                In Christ’s love, Fr. Robert+

Thou didst capture hell not being tempted by it.

Thou didst come to the Virgin, granting life.//

O Lord, Who didst rise from the dead, glory to Thee.

Thy nativity, O Virgin, has proclaimed joy to the whole universe!

The Sun of righteousness, Christour God,

has shone from thee, O Theotokos.

By annulling the curse, // He bestowed a blessing.//

By destroying death, He has granted us eternal life.

Troparion            (Joachim and Anna)            Tone 1

Since ye were righteous under the law of grace, O Joachim and Anna, //ye gave birth to the God-given infant for our sake.

Therefore, the divine Church radiantly keeps feast today, joyfully celebrating thine honorable memory and giving ^glory to God Who has raised up a horn of salvation form the house of David.

O Commanders of the heavenly hosts,// we who are unworthy beseechyou:// by your prayers encompass us beneath the wings of your immaterial glory,// and faithfully preserve us who fall down and cryto you://Deliver us from all harm, for you are the Commanders of the Powers on high!

By thy nativity, most pure Virgin, // Joachim and Anna are freed from barrenness, // Adam and Eve — from the corruption of death. // And we, thy people, freed from the guilt of sin, celebrate and singto thee:// “The barren woman gives birth to the Theotokos, the nourisher of our Life.”
