Weekly Update and Bulletin From Fr. Robert Miclean – January 20, 2013

33rd Sunday after Pentecost/ Ven Euthymius the Great (473)

Welcome to Holy Archangels Orthodox Church (OCA)! We’re glad to have you worshipping the Holy Trinity with us! If you are new or are worshiping with us for the first time, please introduce yourself to our priest, Fr. Robert Miclean, after the service.

Humility, obedience, submission are virtues that seem so ‘out of step’ with our modern consciousness of our selves and the humanistic dogma of self-improvement.  We may ‘feel’ free when we can have our own way, live for ourselves, exult in our pridefulness.  In reality, we become slaves to our own egos and the passions that rule us.  Christ God desires better for us, He desires our freedom from the worst of ourselves, so that we can grow in Him, as His adopted children, co-heirs with Christ, to become the best of ourselves that He created us to be in the first place.  Being in the world but not of the world entails great struggle.  Christ God is here, imparting to us through His Church the way, the prescription, that leads us to greater healing and growth in the life that He alone can give as the Light of the world.

In His love, Fr. Robert+

Hours Blessings.  This is the season when we ask Christ God to bless our homes for holy use, protection, and deification for the next year.  Everyone is greatly encouraged to contact Fr. Robert before January 31 to have their house blessed with the water that God has sanctified by His Holy Spirit at Theophany.

Troparion         (Resurrection) Tone 8
You descended from on high, O Merciful One!
You accepted the three day burial to free us from our sufferings!//
O Lord, our Life and Resurrection, glory to You!

Troparion         (Venerable Euthymius) Tone 4
Rejoice, barren wilderness!
Be glad, sterile desert that has never known the travail of birth!
The man of desires, Euthymius, has multiplied your sons;
he has planted them in faith and piety.
He has watered them with the Holy Spirit;
they grow in self-denial and perfect virtue.//
Through his intercessions, Christ our God, preserve Your people in peace!

Troparion (Holy Archangels)    Tone 4
Commanders of the heavenly hosts, // we who are unworthy beseech you:
by your prayers encompass us beneath the wings of your immaterial glory,
and faithfully preserve us who fall down and cry to you://
“Deliver us from all harm, for you are the Commanders of the Powers on high!”

Kontakion        (Resurrection) Tone 8
By rising from the tomb, You raised the dead and resurrected Adam.
Eve exults in Your Resurrection,
and the world celebrates Your rising from the dead, O greatly Merciful One!

Kontakion  (Venerable Euthymius) Tone 8
The wilderness rejoiced at your birth, holy Father Euthymius.
In your memory, it brings a harvest of joy through your many miracles.
Pour the wonders on our souls as well and cleanse us from our sins,
that we may sing: “Alleluia!”

Kontakion        (Holy Archangels) Tone 2
Commanders of God’s armies
and ministers of the divine glory,
princes of the bodiless Angels
and guides of mankind;
ask for what is good for us, and for great mercy,//
Supreme Commanders of the Bodiless Hosts.
