Weekly Update and Bulletin From Fr. Robert Miclean – August 19, 2018

The young man in today’s Gospel wants to have it both ways: He classifies Jesus as “a good teacher,” but asks of Him that which only God can know and reveal. No man who is simply a “good teacher” could ever answer the ultimate question: not, “what must a man do to inherit eternal life,” but, “what must I do to inherit eternal life.” Likewise, many people today take Christ and His Church on their terms, making of Him who is the Logos (Word) of God, the Creator and Savior of the world, whatever suits their own idea of religion or lifestyle. As Orthodox Christians, we must also be careful that while professing Christ as God with our mouths that we also live out our faith obediently, putting our words into action, and connecting our heads with our hearts. As Christ reveals to the young man in today’s Gospel, He alone sees into every person’s heart. Only if we live out what we profess with our mouths can we avail ourselves of the salvation Christ God would give us. He convicts us of what each of us is lacking, just as He did with the rich young man in today’s Gospel. Christ God does so, that knowing Him, the One true God, we may address whatever impedes us from inheriting eternal life and continuing our growth in the knowledge and love of God in His great mercy and love, to save us.            In Christ’s love, Fr. Robert+

Important: 2018 Pledges/Commitments: We have reached our minimum need of $3,500 per month. Glory to God for His provision! To grow the Mission further, we need everyone to honor their monthly pledges and to give generously and faithfully so we can continue to provide for our church and ready ourselves for the next step. “Let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver” (II Cor. 9:7).

Troparion                   (Resurrection)                  Tone 3

Let the heavens rejoice! // Let the earth be glad!

For the Lord has shown strength with His arm.//He has trampled down death by death.//He has become the first born of the dead.//He has delivered us from the depths of hell,

and has granted to the world//great mercy.

Troparion                   (Dormition)                  Tone 1

In giving birth thou didst preserve thy virginity.

In falling asleep thou didst not forsake the world, O Theotokos.

Thou wast translated to life, O Mother of Life,//

and by thy prayers thou dost deliver our souls from death.

Troparion                   (Marty Andrew Stratelates)                  Tone 5

Thou didst renounce the glory of earthly rank // and didst inherit the Kingdom of Heaven; //thou didst adorn thine incorruptible crown as with beautiful stones. // Thou didst lead an army of martyrs to Christ, // and with the Angels in the never-fading light // thou didst find Christ the never-setting Sun. // Together with those who suffered with thee, // holy General Andrew,//

ever pray to Him that He may save our souls!

Troparion                     (Angels) Tone 4

O Commanders of the heavenly hosts, // we who are unworthy beseech you: // by your prayers encompass us beneath the wings of your immaterial glory, // and faithfully preserve us who fall down and cry to you://Deliver us from all harm, for you are the Commanders of the Powers on high!

Kontakion                   (Resurrection)                  Tone 3

On this day Thou didst rise from the tomb, O Merciful One,

leading us from the gates of death.//On this day Adam exults as Eve rejoices;//with the Prophets and Patriarchs//

they unceasingly praise the divine majesty of Thy power.

Kontakion                   (Martyr Andrew)                                    Tone 2

Standing before the Lord in prayer like a star near the sun,

thou wast filled with ineffable joy beholding thy desire: the treasure of the Kingdom.//Thou dost sing without ceasing to the immortal King//together with the Angels throughout the ages.//

With them, General Andrew, unceasingly pray for us all!

Kontakion                  (Dormition)                  Tone 2

Neither the tomb, nor death, could hold the Theotokos,

who is constant in prayer and our firm hope in her intercessions.

For being the Mother of Life,//she was translated to life by the One Who dwelt in her virginal womb.

Kontakion                  (Angels) Tone 2

Commanders of God’s armies and ministers of the divine glory,// princes of the bodiless Angels and guides of mankind

//ask for what is good for us, and for great mercy,//O Supreme Commanders of the Bodiless Hosts.
