Weekly Update and Bulletin From Fr. Robert Miclean – January 27, 2019

We live in an age when it can be intimidating to speak openly of our faith in Christ God or reveal ourselves to be Orthodox Christians.  Increasingly our faith is seen as out of step with the culture’s ever evolving ‘values.’  The meaning of sin, love, healing, and marriage (just to a few) have all been changed by popular culture to mean something else.  The Saints we commemorate this day all suffered for the sake of the Gospel and Orthodox Faith.  For his uncompromising proclamation of the Gospel and Orthodox Faith, St. John Chrysostom was exiled and died in harsh treatment.  St. Nino forsook all familiar to her out of love for God and the Georgian people to proclaim the Gospel with the strength of the Apostles—At one point, being targeted for murder.  The new martyrs of Russia and all the Communist lands, valiantly confessed Christ knowing that it may cost them their blood.  St. George Calciu (the Confessor) was condemned to death in Romania for his proclamation of the Gospel.  Our priceis much less, but Christ God calls on us to take up our cross, to sacrifice ourselves, to use our talents to love the people of America, those around us, with that same love that motivated these beloved Saints of God to come out of their comfort zone, to give all that they had, to build up Christ’s holy Church, so that others could know the truth of Jesus Christ and the life that’s only in Him.  May we too emulate them and ask their fervent intercessions.  Glory to God for all things!  In Christ, Fr. Robert+

House Blessings:During this season, the faithful invite Christ into their homes to bless them and to pray God to make them places manifesting Christ’s light, peace, truth, and love—harbors, places of refuge for our souls.  House blessings are a testimony to what we believe as Orthodox Christians.  Please contact Fr. Robert with two suggested days/times for a house blessing as soon as possible.  He will do his best to accommodate you.

2019 Pledges/Commitments.  We give back a “first fruits” pledge to Christ from what He’s so mercifully given and entrusted to us.  Everything we have is a gracious gift from God.  Let us be as those servants who used their talentswisely and to God’s glory (Matt. 25:23).  If you have not done so yet, please offer your pledge of talents today.  To grow in faith and grow our Mission “in spirit and in numbers,” please give generously and faithfully. (II Cor. 9:7).
