Weekly Update and Bulletin From Fr. Robert Miclean – August 11, 2019

St. Paul admonishes us today with some powerful words: we’re warned against the sin of division (schism).  This unity and the remedy to our sad divisions is found in the holy Orthodox Faith through which Christ God unites us to Himself and with each other. In our culture today, there are many things that compete for our time, energy, and identity.  We cannot afford to take Orthodoxy on our terms, preferring our own opinions and those of our culture.  Otherwise, we’ll find ourselves divided from Christ and each other.  The Lord gives us a new identity—one that transcends all the other competing, prideful identities that separate us and lead otherwise to schism. In Him and in Him alone, we’re given a new name and become “a new creation,” (II Cor. 5:17).  We witness to the truth of this new, unifying life, by living it out in our own lives, individually and corporately. If we want to see our culture change to embrace Christ and the Church, we must truly “deny ourselves, take up our cross” and follow Christ.  But be prepared, as St. Paul says today, “the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” In Christ’s love, Fr. Robert+

2019 Pledges/Commitments.  We give back a “first fruits” pledge to Christ from what He’s so mercifully given and entrusted to us.  Everything we have is a gracious gift from God.  Let us be as those servants who used their talentswisely and to God’s glory (Matt. 25:23).  If you have not done so yet, please offer your pledge of talents today.  To grow in faith and grow our Mission “in spirit and in numbers,” please give generously and faithfully. (II Cor. 9:7).

Troparion              (Resurrection)            Tone 7

By Thy CrossThou didst destroy death.

To the thief Thou didst open Paradise.

For the Myrrhbearers Thou didst change weeping into joy,

and Thou didst command Thy disciples, O ChristGod,

to proclaimthat Thou art risen,//granting the worldgreat mercy.

Troparion              (Transfiguration)            Tone 7

Thou wast transfigured on the mountain, O ChristGod,

revealing Thy glory to Thy Disciples as far as they could bearit.

Let Thine everlasting Light also shine upon us sinners,

through the prayers of the Theotokos!//

O Giver of Light, glory to Thee!

Troparion              (Martyr Euplus)            Tone 4

Thy holy martyr, Euplus O Lord,

through his sufferings has received an incorruptible from Thee, our God.//For having Thy strength, he laid low his adversaries,

and shattered the powerless boldness of demons.//

Through his intercessions, saveour souls!

Troparion                (Angels) Tone 4

O Commanders of the heavenly hosts, // we who are unworthy beseechyou: // by your prayers encompass us beneath the wings of your immaterial glory, // and faithfully preserve us who fall down and cryto you://Deliver us from all harm, for you are the Commanders of the Powers on high!

Kontakion            (Resurrection)            Tone 7

The dominion of death can no longer hold men captive,

for Christ descended, shattering and destroying its powers.

Hell is bound, while the Prophets rejoiceand cry:

“The Savior has come to thosein faith;//

enter, you faithful, into the Resurrection!”

Kontakion              (Martyr Euplus)            Tone 4

With theloveof Christ as thine only defense,

thou didst stand in the midst of thy ^fightand didst say:

“I endure this struggle willingly and with confidence!”

Thou didst rejoice, O Euplus, to offer thy headto the sword

and so thou didst completethy course.

Kontakion            (Transfiguration)            Tone 7

On the mountain Thou wast transfigured, O ChristGod,

and Thy Disciples beheld Thy glory as far as they could seeit;

so that when theyshould behold Thee crucified,

they would understand that Thy suffering was voluntary,

and would proclaimto the world//

that Thou art truly the Radiance of the Father.

Kontakion               (Angels) Tone 2

Commanders of God’s armiesand ministers of the divine glory//princes of the bodiless Angelsand guidesof mankind// askfor what is good for us, and for great mercy,//O Supreme Commanders of the Bodiless Hosts.
