Holy Archangels Parish Update – Proclaiming and Living the Timeless Truth of Christ

Update on Holy Archangels, Annapolis

Expanding into a Larger Space in Same Building,

Holy Archangels moved the week before Holy Week into larger space in the front of our building and directly on West Street in downtown Annapolis. We had a full schedule of Holy Week services in our newly-appointed church. FIFTY souls joined us for Pascha this year, a new record for us. The church is growing with four new catechumens and several adults who are returning to the Orthodox Faith and life in Christ.

Expanding the Book Store and Outreach

As a result of our move, we have been able to double the size of our bookstore in the narthex. There is a large glass front window for displaying the icons and books that we have on offer, as well as providing passersby the opportunity to see the beauty of our church. Our new location right on West Street has provided us with increased opportunities to share the Gospel and Orthodox Faith with many who would not otherwise have contact with us. We are trying to expand our bookstore’s hours with volunteers so that we can make the most of these outreach opportunities. We are also actively seeking ways to get more involved in our community, such as volunteering to help at the local Crisis Pregnancy Center. Come in a see our selection!

Adult Education: Orthodox Bible Studies and Outreach

In the past year we have had great success with our adult education and Bible studies, which have included studies on the Book of Acts, St. Paul’s Letters to the Galatians and Ephesians, the Epistle of St. James, and starting the third week of September, the Book of Daniel. All of our studies have averaged around 10 participants a week and have drawn both Orthodox and non-Orthodox to our Mission church. Join us on Wednesdays all are welcome!

Outreach at St. John’s College and the U.S. Naval Academy

Our church’s central location in the downtown area means that students and midshipmen can walk to divine services from their respective campuses in addition to our weekly services and/or studies on campus at St. John’s and on the Yard at the U.S. Naval Academy. We have inquirers journeying to the Faith at both St. John’s and the USNA. If you are a student contact us!

Bookstore Grand Opening

As part of our outreach endeavors to the community and others, Holy Archangels hosted a Grand Opening celebration of our expanded bookstore. Several dozens of people visited our church with whom we shared the Gospel and the Orthodox Faith. Ethnic foods were on offer, games for kids, and many our beautiful devotional items and Orthodox books were on sale. Thirty souls joined us that evening for Great Vespers! We look forward to having you in our bookstore!
